What it costs, and why the lowest price is not the safest choice

In Canada, a radio-frequency microneedling session typically costs $800 to $1,500, and a common three-session course costs $2,400 to $4,500.

Prices vary based on the size of the area, the device, the number of sessions and who performs the treatment.

In October 2025 the United States regulator warned of serious complications reported with radio-frequency microneedling, including burns, scarring, fat loss and nerve damage. The regulator advised people to choose a licensed provider with training and experience in the device.

Ask who will treat you before you ask what it costs.

Questions to ask at any consultation

These questions can help you understand whether the treatment is right for you.

  1. Which device do you use?
  2. How many of these treatments do you do each month?
  3. Who will perform my treatment, and what is their training?
  4. How many sessions do you recommend for me, and why?
  5. What are the risks for my skin type?
  6. What is included in the price?

How skin tightening treatments work

All of these treatments deliver controlled heat below the surface. The heat makes existing collagen fibres shorten and thicken, and it starts a healing response in which your skin produces new collagen and elastin over the following months.

Radio-frequency microneedling

Very fine needles enter the skin to a set depth, usually between 0.5 mm and 4 mm on the face. Radio-frequency energy is released from the needle tips, so the heat is delivered in the dermis and the surface is largely spared.

Focused ultrasound

Ultrasound energy passes through the surface with no needles and is focused at set depths, down to about 4.5 mm. That is deep enough to reach the support layer under the skin of the face. It is often done as a single treatment.

Radio-frequency without needles

Heat is delivered from the surface of the skin. It is usually done as a series.

Devices you may hear about include Morpheus8, Potenza, Ultherapy, Sofwave and Thermage. These treatments suit mild to moderate looseness. They will not match a surgical facelift, and results vary from person to person.

Illustration of the epidermis, dermis and subcutaneous skin layers

Your skin has three main layers. The epidermis is the surface you see and touch. The dermis sits underneath and holds collagen and elastin, the proteins that help keep skin firm and let it spring back.

The subcutaneous layer is the fat and connective tissue below that. On the face, a deeper support layer lies beneath it.

With age, collagen breaks down and the skin loses strength and elasticity. That happens in the dermis, so a cream on the surface cannot reach it.

FAQs

Is Consult Hotline a clinic?

No. We are a matching service. We do not provide treatment or medical advice.

Does it hurt?

With microneedling, numbing cream is used and most people feel heat and pressure. Your clinic will explain what to expect.

How many sessions will I need?

A course of three is common for microneedling. Ultrasound is often a single treatment. Your clinic will recommend a plan.

How long do results last?

It varies. Your skin continues to age, so many people have maintenance treatments.

Who should not have it?

Your clinic will ask about your health, any implants and your skin history before recommending treatment.

Do I have to book?

No. You can ask your questions and decide later.

Who is this for?

Adults 18 and over.
